Here are some home remedies that can lighten, exfoliate and control dark elbows and knees naturally.

Lemon:

Lemon has natural whitening properties. It acts as a natural peel and is rich in vitamin C to help get rid of dead skin cells. Lemon promotes skin regeneration, helps build healthy skin cells and brightens the skin tone. Lemon Instructions: Apply freshly squeezed lemon juice on your elbows and knees and massage gently for 5 minutes. Leave it on for 20 minutes, then wash it off with warm water and apply coconut oil on your skin. Repeat the application once a day for several weeks.

Alternatively, freshly squeezed lemon juice can be mixed with 1 tablespoon of honey and applied on the dark areas of the skin. Leave the mixture for 20 minutes and then wash off with water. Repeat the application once a day for several weeks. Honey also provides enough moisture to the skin.

Note: Avoid exposure to sunlight for the next 3 hours after using lemon juice.

Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil provides enough moisture to the skin. Rich in Vitamin E, it evens out skin tone and is very effective for drying. It brightens the dark areas of the skin and helps in repairing the dark and damaged skin.

Use coconut oil: After bathing or bathing, apply coconut oil on your elbows and knees and massage with light hands for 1-2 minutes. Apply several times a day to prevent drying.

Alternatively, you can mix half a teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice in 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and apply it on your skin. Leave the mixture on for 15-20 minutes, then wipe off with a paper towel. Repeat the application once a day.

Aloe Vera:

Aloe vera acts as a natural skin lightener. It provides moisture to the skin to make it even, and helps in repairing the skin cells damaged by the sun rays.

Cut a fresh aloe vera leaf, remove the aloe vera gel and apply it on the affected area. Leave the gel on for 20 minutes, then wash off with warm water. Repeat the application 1-2 times a day for several weeks.

Sugar and Olive Oil:

Homemade sugar peel exfoliates better. Olive oil provides rich vitamin E and moisture to the skin and makes the skin soft.


To prepare the sugar scrub: 

In a bowl, combine 1 tbsp olive oil and 1 tbsp sugar to make a thick paste. Rub the paste on the dark areas of skin for 5 minutes, then wash off with warm water.

Baking Powder:

Baking soda gently cleanses the skin. Helps remove dead skin cells and reduces hyperpigmentation on knees and elbows.

When using baking powder: Mix 1 tbsp baking powder and 1 tbsp milk and knead into a dough and rub it on the affected area in circular motion for 2-3 minutes. Then wash off the paste with lukewarm water and pat the affected area to dry completely. Repeat the application once every two days until the desired result is achieved.

Peppermint:

Peppermint is rich in a variety of essential oils that stimulate the production of collagen in the body. This ensures an even complexion and better skin elasticity.

To use mint: In a small saucepan, add cup of water and 1 handful of mint and cook for 2-3 minutes. After boiling, add juice of lemon, mix well and sieve. After the solution has cooled, a cotton swab is dipped in the solution and rubbed on the affected skin area. Leave it for 15-20 minutes and then wash off with warm water. Repeat 1-2 times a day till the desired result is achieved.
